well when all the characters in a series ~magically~ pair up in nice little heterosexual pairings, that's goodbye to my willing suspension of disbelief

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Both of those bother me because it basically says that they don't know ANYBODY outside their own main group.

[identity profile] ginzai.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, especially when it's kids or teenagers. Straight or gay pairings, it doesn't matter; I've always got a hard time buying it when people only hook up with childhood friends.

[identity profile] thezmage.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I remember the complaints that Digimon fandom still sometimes has about the ending of Digimon season 2, where some characters got paired up with people that they hadn't met by the time they hit 12. So some people definitely agree with you.

[identity profile] msloserrific.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember my young heart being so sad that Taichi didn't end up with Sora. (But really, all that mattered was Hikari and Takeru)

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
This!

[identity profile] bloodrivendream.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
This.
And I am thinking of Harry Potter now.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's how it happens sometimes. Who else do they have to associate with that shares all their common stuff like being a sidekick superhero?

That happened at my High School with just the band, the drama club, or the debate team, so I can't even imagine if it were a YJ situation.

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
not in the fandom but... the world is like, 90% heterosexual making it statistically very possible.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
well, you can't really be sure of the accuracy of that statistic, since it's very likely that a lot of homosexuality has gone unreported. and, you know, 10% homosexual-identified doesn't mean that the other 90% is completely straight.

i'll agree that heterosexuality everywhere might be a bit more likely than homosexuality everywhere, but i tend to dispute the use of this statistic. :P all in all it's the pairing up of absolutely everyone that bothers me, whether gay or straight.

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I know. that was just a random statistic. What i mean is... wth is with people calling that "unrealistic" that the six of them are in straight pairs. :B

[identity profile] spam-27.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Except the 10% thing was taken from a group that largely consisted of male prison inmates. It's currently closer to 4% in the US according to voter statistics.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
that sounds even more inaccurate.

who the fuck cares about 'statistically' anything, asshole.

well, obviously you do. way to go to enforce your heteronormativity on people's enjoyment.

but you know, some of us are really sick and fucking tired of this old, played out bullshit reasoning. just because YOUR sad pathetic life is an homogeneous mass doesn't mean that some of us are satisfied with being a 'statistic'.

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
lolwat o_o

Asspull, you write them.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
76.95% of all statistics are pulled out of the ass of the person commenting.

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I thought I already clarified random? and added a "like"?

[identity profile] altuscor.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's a better chance, true, and aren't all of them canonically straight anyway?

However, as someone who identifies himself as homosexual, I can't help but feel marginalised... Where's Pied Piper, Midnighter, or Apollo?

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about this show. ._.; But if you mean homosexual superheroes, then IA. I don't exactly see a variety of races 9though it's a different issue than sexual orientation buuut, yeah). That is a problem. The initial comment just made me blink.

I love the responses to this comment...It's totally societal norms making most people heterosexual, not, ya know, nature and that pesky need-to-mate-to-carry-on-species-thing-and-sexuality-is-not-a-choice.

(Should probably state that while homosexuality is not a choice, and is natural, it's still silly to assume it outnumbers heterosexuality in nature)

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
it's still silly to assume it outnumbers heterosexuality in nature

...nobody implied or said this anywhere in this thread, wtf

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie: this is probably the most ignorant comment I have read all day; and I was on 4chan this morning. You are aware that the majority of the planet is hetero, right?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
got links to statistics on that?

or is that just a polling of your pathetic useless homophobic mouth breathing friends.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, most people and relationships are hetero. If you were looking for realism in a group of six random teens, one, maybe two of them would be something besides cis and strictly hetero. Maybe they'd be romantically/sexually compatible, maybe not.

That said, this secret is silly. Who cares if it's unlikely, it's fun!

Probably gonna get dogpiled for this, but... I agree. Especially if it's an even-numbered group and they all just ~*happen*~ to pair up with... other people in the group. All around the same time.

I mean, I'm not exactly condoning canon/OC romances (not my cup of tea, thanks), but I want a mix in my romance representation, dammit. Gay pairings (male and female), straight pairings, poly relationships, characters who aren't in a relationship but not for lack of trying, characters who aren't in a relationship and seem perfectly happy that way...
