10. I don't think people are serious when they say they can hear a character speaking to them or something (god, I hope not), I think they mean that they can (or think they can) "feel" what a character's reaction to something oe a situation would be. Something like that. That's what I aim for when I pick a character to RP: If I can think what they think and I consider it to be correct with what the game/book/movie presents them as, then I consider myself to have grabbed a new muse.

If that made any sense.

Despite this, I don't really get why people describe it as independent entities living in their head, so I'm not sure if I exactly have it right either. XD But you're definitely not weird. It can be tough to get inspiration sometimes. Even if I think I can understand how a character feels about something, it doesn't mean I'm motivated enough to put it to words.

15. WORD.

I'm sick of people calling some characters Mary Sues just because they master a skill rather quickly. Maybe Elizabeth was just inherently GOOD at swordplay and picked it up faster than most people could? It happens with sports, it happens with everything.

Jesus, those people would complain if she WASN'T fighting either. What the hell do they want? God forbid a woman actually becomes an equal with the prettier, male characters.

16. That picture is SO cool.

Exactly! How could she NOT learn how to fight properly and shit, she KNOWS nobody but Will would actually come save her ass if they were ever attacked.

Besides, she doesn't strike me as the kind of woman who wants to depend on a man for her own protection anyway. Which is like the Anti-Sue... but at the same time, Sue-ish? Bleh.

15. I hate the rampant sexism and misogyny in fandom. If a guy lights people on fire and walks around naked and eats like a horse and whines like a bitch, he's hot and sexy and cool. But if a girl does the same stuff in the slightest manner, she's a fat stupid whore. Makes me wanna strangle these idiots.

I know. ._. It seems like female characters get the short end of the stick on EVERYTHING because they don't have a penis and this somehow makes them less cool than their male counterparts.

I really see no explanation. I understand some sane people just don't like their personalities or something, but I see too many people just hating them because they're not male, character development or growth be damned. It doesn't matter how awesome they end up being or the fact that the male characters may depend on them for emotional support, they're women and they suck.

I'm being very spiteful here, but that's just the way I seem to be viewing things. I'm worried I'll start doing the reverse and hating male characters just because they're male (and I do have a lot of favorite male characters, just as I have a lot of favorite female characters!).

Wow, I'm sorry for ranting at you. XD; My apologies, I just need to get that out sometimes.

As I said long ago when I first read Gravitation: If Shuichi were a girl, the fandom would hate his guts and, consequently, the series.

WTF, social programming. How have you made so many young girls into frothing misogynists? D:

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, you're so right. T_T

And I hate Shuichi, and consequently, the series. XD; I like yaoi too, but Shuichi is just too stupid for either gender for me to like him HAHAHA.

And then they try to push their arguments as Simply The Truth and not listen to other people's reasoning of why calling "SUE!!" is kinda retarded. *reading the thread below and finding herself getting annoyed with [livejournal.com profile] pankster*

15. I just saw this movie today, and I thought she was awesome. I mean, you have to admit, with some female characters they go over the top. But I thought Elizabeth was awesome. And with the circumstances she had been placed in, I think it's all very well necessary on her part.

I'm sick of people calling some characters Mary Sues just because they master a skill rather quickly. Maybe Elizabeth was just inherently GOOD at swordplay and picked it up faster than most people could? It happens with sports, it happens with everything.

Plus, I think people miss that author intent plays into Mary-Sueness. If the writers were all "oh look, she picked up sword fighting so quickly because she is so super awesome love her and despair!" than yeah, maybe she's be a Sue. But I got the feeling the writers were more like "hey look, another pretty person who can look really cool swordfighting. Yay! Swordfights! Pirates! Fish people!" which does not a Sue make.
