I think your system could potentially be more helpful. A warning for angst, dark themes, and gore is more descriptive than a warning for character death.

That said, I've personally found that spoiler-y warnings don't take anything away from a well-made piece of fiction. The mere fact that a character dies isn't the important thing; the real impact comes from the details. YMMV, of course.

^ This. It's the mark of a good writer that they can elicit OP's description of the impact of death even with a spoiler.
That being said, I think "dark fic/topics" suffices as a warning if you are someone who does not wish to spoil things.
