I do realize that the capacity for co-existence exists in a smaller tight-knit society - this atmosphere tends to do away with the outliers. But it's also been shown that, while slavery isn't actually legal in Ferelden, it is still recent in their history, and indentured servitude does seem to exist, still. In a society as large as Ferelden is, such a difference in power, I fear, will always lead to magister lords rather than equality. I want more than anything to see this proven wrong, and it's certainly worth the risk to see if they can make it work, but I still feel that in time, that's where it would lead. I can see no peaceful resolution. When equality is an impossibility, there will be an abuse of these powers.

Furthermore, it's been said by Merrill herself that being a Keeper is hard. They aren't treated as equals to the rest of the elves. They are respected, honored, and revered, but they can never have a normal life. They're outsiders among their own people. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not an attainable goal for a great society where people are free to come and go, like Ferelden.
