It makes me a bit nervous as well. I think they're in a great position to do some amazing things with his character, plus the whole build up over the last three episodes especially about how Dean views Castiel as part of his family, make me think that they're going to try to save him. Saving family members from themselves is what the Winchesters do. It's what makes sense to me, for the characters and for the plot.

But then you hear things like the rumors that Cas will be killed off in the premier and so on and yeah, the worry seems justified.

Yeah this, so much this. The potential is HUGE, but whether or not they're going to use it is something else entirely. I don't mind the thought of them killing him so much as I mind them not putting any thought or logic into it. Hey, if they're dead-set on killing Castiel, that's fine. But not in the premier, and not before some attempts at trying to figure out how to save him, even if said attempts are laughable.

Because like you said, saving family members from themselves is the Winchester way. If they succeed or not is a different story, but man, if they don't have them at least try I'm going to be annoyed.

Sadly, the whole "saving people, saving family" thing seems to only apply to Sam and Dean (and sometimes Bobby). Outside their little circle, nobody else seems to matter.

I'd be more optimistic about the next season if Sam and Dean actually try to redeem Cas or "save" him from himself. But with the way the boys have been treating Cas last season (still pissed at hypocritical!Sam pulling a knife on Cas in the finale), they will probably cut all ties with Cas and treat him like another thing that needs to be hunted.

Fuck I hate the writers sometimes.
