But speaking as someone who has been on the opposite end of that multiple times, it's also terrifying to be confronted with those feelings when it's unrequited but still coming from someone you love and don't want to hurt.
Because they do get hurt, every time. And it hurts to hurt them, but what can you do? You can't choose who you're attracted to or who you'd be interested in having a relationship with.
I can only speak for myself, but if I'd had the choice between those who had confessed confessing or keeping their silence, I'd have preferred the silence each and every time. I could have kept them as friends then. I miss my friends.
