yeah, because dictionary definitions exist in a vacuum void of patriarchal influence and male supremacy

A dictionary definition that I got from my extremely feminist Women's Studies teacher who then immediately went on to assure us that sexism against men does exist and we should be careful not to fall into the trap of female superiority instead of gender equality.

your women's studies teacher is an idiot, just saying.

Male here. It's true. No point lying about it now. It's our world baby!

We totally filled that neutral definition with sooooo much patriarchal subtext. If you look in the pixels really close, you can actually see the subliminal message to get back in the kitchen.

Re: OP

Because feminists are so ~*special*~ that they get to redefine existing words in such a way that *they* can't ever be guilty of racism, sexism, or any other sin they accuse people of all the time.

It's not "patriarchal influence" or "male supremacy" to pick common parlance over obscure academic definitions. And it's a pathetic dodge to bring out a sociology 101 textbook when someone calls you an ass for hating men.

Re: OP

When it comes to a word like "sexism," this argument really doesn't apply. The sociological re-definition of *isms is fairly recent, as in the past 20 years or so, and is a matter of trying to find the best language to describe a phenomenon.

Re: OP

Every definition has a political intent behind it. Choosing to define sexism in such a way erases the way patriarchy hurts men and forgets that the tools patriarchy use against men often hurt women, too.

For example, the OP has fallen into the 'battle of the sexes' trap that tries to convince us that men and women are intrinsically different, thus naturalizing the differences between genders and supporting inequality.
