Yes, because somebody has the capacity to be silly and make jokes in celebration of an amazing turning point in their mind clearly means that this person is discriminatory. Viewpoints are subjective, and the songs she chose were not songs of hate, they were songs of parody and (some would say) clever mockery of social norms. This same feel was likely intended to be carried by the mix as a whole. You may want to step down off your high horse before you hurt yourself.

[identity profile] decuvieri.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no, definitely never going to be okay with people listing a bunch of songs embracing every negative stereotype about gay men and calling it a ~celebration~. Sorry if this causes conflict within your happy little world.

Viewpoints are subjective. When you put something out there that hurts other people and you don't give a fuck? Don't start crying when they say something.

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because no gay dude has ever rocked out to "Always" by Erasure, and calle dit a "celebration." I have a feeling that you would crash their party and shout "NO, STOP, YOU'RE BEING A STEREOTYPE! BWAA!" Lighten up, dude. Abide. All that jazz.

[identity profile] decuvieri.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The homosexual community has a hard enough time getting public perception away from the negative stereotypes without dim-witted fangirls shouting, "Yeah! Ride that ass! That's what teh gay is all about!"

So you go "abide" and all that jazz.

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, the pink triangle is all about taking a negative thing and turning it into something positive. You can take "negative" things and totally rock out to them and make them your own, become empowered instead of letting them keep you down. So yeah, I am gonna go abide. Grab myself some milk, some vodka, and admire my living room rug, 'cause it totally ties the room together. ♥

Are you an LGBTQ?

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oooof, loaded question. If I answer "yes," does everything become forgiven? Or do I get attacked for betraying my own? I'll pass on this one, thanks.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-06 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
I wish more people would answer identity-policing inquiries like this. Well done, sirrah/ma'am/other.

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, viewpoints are subjective. And hers is that celebration is best when it's RIDICULOUS. And besides, you do realize that you chased her to a different community in a conversation that had nothing to do with ANY of this where she was showing people pictures of a character of hers, not even narrative them beyond "pretty, huh?", and turned it into a flame war? What are you, twelve?

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that the issue should have been brought to me directly (or on the thread in question) instead of a completely different community, but I wouldn't say that it's a flame war so much as it's... a disagreement of "empowerment" versus "perpetuating stereotypes." I understand that Decurvieri find my song selections offensive, and while I offer my sympathy, I make no apologies for my song selections. I believe that the artists of all of the songs selected for my mix were meant to empower the artist and all homosexuals, as was my intent when I selected the songs. Samwell's "What What (In the Butt)" is intentionally campy, so much in fact that it becomes empowering, but I can understand that some super-serious people would see it as a perpetuation of a stereotype. But to this, I would again point out that the inverted pink triangle is about taking a negative thing and turning it into something positive, and that's what my fanmix is about. It's about gay Shepard finally allowed to be gay in ME3, so he's gonna rock out to it. :D

Perhaps. And it's true, if you have concerns then feel free to express them. But don't start shit weeks later in a different public forum, or if you do, how about doing so maturity? I mean, as much as I love you, I don't care for half the songs either, so I didn't download. Easy. :x

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I love you. So level-headed, rational and amazing. ♥

(Anonymous) 2011-06-06 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
This response is amazing. <3333

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, m'love, thank you for the support! Some people are too serious for their own good. It's better just to live in harmony, harmony, oh looooove~♥

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Always, I want to be with you and make believe with you. ♥

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
AND LIVE IN HARMONY, HARMONY, OH LOOOOOVE~! ♥ ♥ ♥

Anon who was reading this wank.
Oh fuck you all, I was just playing that game. :p Speaking of camp.

Also, I'm glad that you cleared up the fan mix. I was wondering about it myself until you mentioned what you were going for. (Basically, my sense of humor fails me.) Though why Dance Commander? (Other than Shep can't dance)

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was because Shep can't dance, and because it's hilarious to imagine that Commander Shepard is the Dance Commander. XD
