Re: tl;dr, whoops

Yeah I agree with this so fucking much

Homestuck is pretty much the nerdiest thing ever. I think, if you want to try and think about what qualities or characteristics make a piece of entertainment 'nerdy', Homestuck is probably your primo case. The pacing, the number of characters and their characterization, the huge morass of confusing impenetrable bullshit you have to wade through. Before Homestuck I never quite understood what nerdy shit looked like to outside observers, you know? And I like Homestuck but I can easily see how someone just would not want to deal with it.

Um yeah

Plus, it's also 'nerdy' in the sense that you sort of have to have spent a lot of time on the Internet in order to hop on board with the storytelling. I've got a friend who likes fantastical, long, wacky stories, and I thought about telling her to read Homestuck. And then I realized she doesn't go online much, never uses IM, probably doesn't have any idea what a 'troll' is, and would get really bored slogging through hundreds of pages of chatlogs.

Sometimes you just want to read a straightforward novel, or a comic, or a play, or watch a show, or listen to music, and not try to wade your way through some out-there chimerical piece of work with its tentacles in all five and then some. I think Homestuck works best for people who are immersed in the onslaught of information that being on the Internet gets you. The constant jumping from thread to thread, & (somewhat) from medium to medium.

...errr, if that makes any sense. Wow I appear to want to blather on about this. Thus outing myself as the kind of colossal nerd who loves Homestuck, I guess. xD

I think this is the most coherent and understandable explanation for Homestuck and how it might or might not appeal to someone that I've ever read, don't feel bad. XD
