Haha your icon is amazing. Also, this. I can't play as M!Warden or M!Hawke - they both just feel ridiculously silly and I can't get into the game at all with them.

If you think M!Warden is silly, it's because you're playing him silly. He's just an empty shell with no spoken lines (except "Mission complete. On to the next!" or whatever action lines your version of him has) that you fill with whatever personality you want to give him, just the same as F!Warden.

If you think M!Warden is automatically ridiculously silly because he has a penis, that's just you having problems.

Well, I actually do find the five or ten default lines pretty silly-sounding. I also am female and tend to say dialogue options in my head in my own voice, so doing that and seeing some big bearded man on screen can sometimes make me laugh. (Not in any way exclusive to M!Warden, btw.) Also, I find the default character designs for the male characters, and almost all the other default male face shapes, comparatively sillier-looking than the female defaults. This is a personal preference but yes, I do find it more difficult to take the character seriously when half the time I’m like BUT WHY DOES YOUR FACE LOOK LIKE THAT.

I know I didn’t really elaborate in my original comment, but I really don’t see how the comment in any way lent to this conclusion, and am amused that this was your first reaction. Is thinking all men are silly a common thing in the DA fandom? (Genuinely curious.)

All the action lines are silly sounding. I've yet to make a Warden of any gender I don't want to Just Shut Up after an hour or two, male or female. Not being able to hear any voice in your head but your own must suck for you, though. It must make role-playing difficult and boring. Or reading books.

Who really cares about the default designs? They're all boring and/or weird looking. Did you even try to make a male character you thought looked good? Just curious.

I'm not in the DA:O fandom. I took one look at it, noticed the high amount of people who gleefully talked about how they always slit Zevran's throat because "That fucking faggot deserves it for hitting on me!", and decided that I want nothing to do with this fandom. I just play the game. But thinking all men are silly is a thing I've seen from fandom "feminists" quite often, on this very community even. Your lack of elaboration on why you think an empty male shell is ridiculously silly when the empty female shell isn't made me wonder if that was the case with you.

Well, I didn't say that at all. I have no trouble hearing voices in the voices of characters when they're from a TV show or something and I have something to base it off. I guess the M!Warden default voice is ubiquitous enough that I can't really project it into an actual whole male voice in my head.

Well, I'm not sure how it's supposed to have made role-playing difficult (if we're talking solely DA!RP), but it certainly hasn't made it boring. I guess if I really wanted to play M!Warden for plot reasons or whatever I could assign him a voice I know from TV? Thankfully I prefer F!Warden for plot reasons too, so this has never come up.

Who really cares about the default designs?

I do, obviously! I played that semi-Asian-looking default girl character for my first playthrough and she's still the prettiest Bioware character I've ever played. Also, I absolutely can't customise DA faces, I tried once and the result was just terrible, I actually ended up starting over with a default just because it looked so bad. So yes, I did try, and it was a huge disaster.

80% of comments on this community are short and lacking in elaboration, though. I guess people open themselves to all sorts of conclusions if they state a point without necessarily giving reasons, and I'm glad you did kind of ask me for reasons, but at the same time, for me, "thinking one very particular model of man is weird = do you think all men are weird?" it's a weird leap to an unfamiliar conclusion.

I enjoy character customization so much that I guess it never occurred to me that there might be people who don't like making their own characters. My bad.

Thing is that I've never seen M!Warden as a very particular model of man. To me the character customization screen is just a blank page where I create a character I want to play as. So when I hear someone say that male Warden is ridiculously silly but female Warden isn't, I only really hear that person say that MALE is silly, since there is no Warden until you create one, unlike some other games where you pick between a specific female character and a specific male character when you start the game. And I guess that's where I saw the "Lol, penis! Silly!" part of your comment, which I now realize you did not think at all.
