Canon ship is canon?
Even if they weren't having sex, it's obviously that she was special to him and that they were in a close relationship with each other

I can honestly say that for the first time ever in my life I actually feel compelled to read the bible.

I admit to having shipped this since I was a little girl. You're not alone, OP.

Oh man, I totally ship it. I've never read The Da Vinci Code, and nor do I want to. You're not alone!

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
But they did have a clearly sweet relationship iirc. I want to reread New Testament books again now, it's been years and it'd be cool to read them for fun as mythish literature than, "I MUST READ THIS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HULLABALOO IS :|"

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm laughing at the use of the word "canon" in these comments. XD

On a semi-related note, in my church we're taught that everyone is supposed to get married and have kids, so some of my church teachers have speculated that Jesus had a wide and kids. It's not impossible that it was her, I guess. The Bible probably left out a lot of details....

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ewww that's gross. It's like shipping my own father with someone else and imaging him having sex o.O so gross

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
how in the world is this a FANDOM secret? then again, considering christianity's a bunch of phoney bullshit, i can see it. nevermind.

Mary Magdalene is called, in the early church, "The Apostle to the Apostles". She was, generally known, throughout early Christianity up until the Middle Ages as an Apostle of great importance (greater than Paul, indeed greater than any other follower of Christ), as well as a Prophetess and Saint in her own right, with her own important gospel (http://www.gnosis.org/library/marygosp.htm).

It's only until the deeply male-dominated political upheaval of much later years that she's purposefully confused with the prostitute that Jesus forgives at a rich man's supper. Perhaps it's a conflation of her status within the Apostles. mixed-up with her gender that marks her as Christ's wife, or perhaps it's the literal truth, but it doesn't matter ...

Mary Magdalene is a great Apostle, Saint and learned woman of the Christian faith, period, whether her role as Christ's wife is literal or symbolic. Any true Christian worth their salt can't claim she's anything other.

I'm convinced (and have been for a good 20 years or more) that she was his wife. So, me too?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
To me she was more than a friend or sister to him but that love wasn't necessary one of husband/wife because there's more than that. I mean, the only way a man and a woman can love each other is though being a couple?

*shrugs* To me Jesus is too great to "ship" him with someone.

I'm not religious, but I went to Catholic schools, and I still really like some of the stories/characters in there. I ship the two...but not in an erotic way, I suppose.

[identity profile] infant-queen.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
...Whoa, an interesting pairing here.

And I am not even religious. Lol

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, it almost made the canon (in the original sense), you're probably safe on this one. If not, you can always claim you're writing Last Temptation of Christ fanfic, where it is canonical (in the fannish sense), and avoid the Dan Brown conversation.

As an atheist, I approve. :)

Mary Magdalene is one of the best characters in the Bible imo, complete with a heel face turn and a growth in character. It's such a shame we don't see much of her :/.
