I wouldn't say I'm *thankful* that I didn't turn out a furry, as I have nothing against furries, but I'm kinda surprised. My childhood crushes consisted of Sonic, Star Fox, Rocko... basically, I know kinda how you feel.

[identity profile] blenderhead.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm not the only one who had a crush on Ren as a kid? lol

I'm surprised I didn't end up being a furry. I crushed on a lot of anthropomorphic characters when I was young, particularly Ren and Rocko.

Me too! I loved Ren when I was like 7 or 8. All my crushes were anthro at that age. The biggest ones were for Justing from the Secret of NIMH and Timon from the Lion King.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Fucking 80's and 90's cartoons. I still haven't outgrown my crush on Darkwing Duck. Or Babs Bunny now that you remind me. Thanks a lot, cartoons. Thanks. A. Lot.
>:(

When more than half the cartoons and animated films you grow up with have talking, clever animals, it's obviously going to be likely you're going to identify or REALLY like one of them.

[identity profile] tenshihitomi.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
For me, it was all about Robin Hood (Disney version) and Basil from The Great Mouse Detective. :x

[identity profile] time-ambassador.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
YOUR ICON. <3 Wizaaarrrrrrrrrrrds.

[identity profile] icarian-ink.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
ahhh Robin Hood...he's a fox ;P

[identity profile] spadessssslick.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Basil yessssssss. You have the best taste.

[identity profile] jukeboxhound.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear lord, those two. Not enough <3.

[identity profile] stace-s.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG double yes on Basil. Cartoons are out to make furries of us all!

[identity profile] deciphre.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
And here I am, doodling anthros, yet I don't really identify as a furry. Wait what.
Oh well.

[identity profile] torakaka.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it surprises me too. Darkwing Duck was my first crush ever.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I love little furry animals.

I collect mice (mostly non-live ones, but there have been life specimens)

I'm generally pervy.

But for some reason those two things didn't mix either, and I'm sorta glad they didn't either. Though of course if I had been a furry, I might be thinking differently.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say if your childhood crushes were Ren and Timon, you have bigger problems than possible furrydom

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hear hear. Two more UNsexy beasts I have never seen. I'm with the OP on Danger Mouse, though.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I had non-animal childhood crushes, too. Han Solo. Tintin. Mighty Max.

...Cogsworth. >__>

I get paid to draw furries for furries, sometimes XXX style. Yet I don't consider myself a furry?

For me a furry is someone who really identifies with the animal character or wears fursuits or commissions for pictures of furry porn or is sexually attracted to furry pictures.

So maybe you were a furry as a kid, but grew out of it.

Me? I'm going to stick the Super Lesbians from Mars. Fur just doesn't do it for me.

[identity profile] robintheshrew.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. I'm not exactly a fan of furries (I find them annoying) but I feel like everyone, as a kid, had an anthropomorphic crush.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not everybody wants to be a furry. It's really no big deal.

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
pff that's nothing. I wanted to marry Fred Flintstones.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's the worst thing that could have ever happened to you, obvs. Being a furry.

Phew! Dodged a real bullet there, eh?

FURRBALL! He's so my fave!

[identity profile] ianthine9.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I so agree with this.

Like, I have nothing against anthro art. I like some of it. I have nothing against furries (except from the fringe groups that seem to think they're ZOMG so oppressed) I just...my brain doesn't get what's so great about it. Then again, cosplaying in general for sexual satisfaction is a giant "meh" for me.

[identity profile] junoluver.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I grew up on cartoons like these and loved the characters too, anon! I also grew up drawing pictures of Lion King, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bugs Bunny, Star Fox, you name it. I even had anthro characters for a while. I never considered myself part of the furry fandom though I did draw for many of them.

You crushed on lots of different characters. I've always felt that as children, it's our lack of desire for sex appeal that makes our crushes solely based on the kinds of personalities we find attractive. Sadly, when we grow up, most of us change. Your crushes were perfectly normal and incredibly common, I know my friends and I all had a crush on a Ninja Turtle, or Sonic the Hedgehog, or something similar when we were preschoolers. Just because you crushed on some animal characters doesn't mean you were inclined to have a desire for animalistic fetishes. <3
