That'd certainly be a first. I've never seen a cross-species anthropomorphic animal romance in a blockbuster family film. Or anywhere, really.

Okay, give me Disney examples. All I've ever seen from them is foxes with foxes, bears with bears, ducks with ducks, Goofy with Goofies etc...

The only thing that comes to my mind are the weird animal-aliens from Treasure Planet. The captain - who was a cat-like thing - and the docotr who was a ... Goofy-type thing *g*

I think those were the same species, though. They had a litter successfully anyway. (I'm putting waaayyyy too much thought into this.)

WAIT! I just thought of a pairing! Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog! Oh, how stupid of me not to remember those two. Talk about the romance of the ages.

Fantasia
-Crocodiles with hippos and ostriches (kinda, haha)
Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros
-Donald and the other birds with human girls
Sword and the Stone
-Squirrel on human action ;)
The Great Mouse Detective
-No specific relationships in this movie, but the bat, lizards, etc oogling the stripper mouse is seen as normal
Peter Pan and Little Mermaid
-Human to Merperson (if that counts)and in Peter Pan the Lost Boys even wear fursuits! :P
Beauty and the Beast (before he turned human again)
-Beast on human
-Candlestick on feather-duster (and clock XD)
Tarzan
-Terk the Gorilla had some feelings towards Tarzan
Treasure Planet
-Amelia (a cat alien) and Doppler(a dog alien)
Bolt
-Hints of Mittens (cat) to Bolt (dog)... well, I shipped it anyway.


For non-Disney feature films we have:

Shrek
-Donkey x Dragon

Most of that was played for laughs or it was a case of mistaken identity or it was enchanted!human + human or it was just alien side-characters. (Although Gloria x Melman was a beautiful thing. So was Fantasia.)

But they ARE prime examples so I definitely stand corrected but I STILL *thumps fist on table* want to see a character driven romance between two LEAD characters, cross-species, that's treated seriously.

I just remembered Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog! Their portrayal of the Cratchits in A Muppet Christmas Carol was portrayed seriously and wonderfully.
