(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 06:41 am (UTC)(link)The lack of oxegen thing is a stupid, stupid cliche - kissing can be intense, yes, and may cause one to breathe harder and faster, yes, and that may cause some people to pull away to catch their breath for a moment, but I've never in my life seen anybody go through even close to the histronic "OMG - NO AIR" crap that appears in a lot of fic.
Similarly, lots of fics allow people to kiss in positions that kissing would strain necks or be very uncomfortable. Or allow people to talk or even kiss through gags the author has apparently forgotten were in. Or have characters with extreme hight difference kiss without mentioning how they compensate.
Fictional intimacy and sex are not like real life. People want it to be both hotter and more intense and easier and less messy than real life. The trick is to find the hyperbole in your own life - with the right partner, everything seems awesome because it's THAT PERSON, not because it's necessarily sexual.
Also, quite simply, there are different strokes for different folks - there are plenty of people who don't like to kiss at all and just as many that find kisses more intense and stimulating than anything else.
Sorry I sound like somebody's wierd old TMI advice giving aunty... I can't help it.
