(Anonymous) 2011-06-09 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)Also, as anyone who knows make-up can tell you, the look they give her, the natural look, is much harder to pull off than slathering some red lipstick on her and calling it a day. They DEFINITELY put makeup on her though, not only because you can't step in front of a camera without some on - it's a necessity to issue you're not washed out by the lights - but because her skin is flawless and poreless.
Essentially, they went for classically beautiful, and what you are seeking is bombshell hot. I don't think Fleur was HOT though, she's never described in the books as such - I think she was beautiful, and hot and beaitful are two different things. And she was NEVER described as 'ravishingly' beautiful in the books, only mysteriously so - you're putting your own interpretation of what alien/magical beauty would be. I don't think it would be ravishing, personally - I think it would be more like they have Fleur styled, plain but with some otherworldly quality.
All of this ends in: you're expecting too much of your own personal spin to have been put onto the character, because she was never described in any sexual terms and was never meant to be smoking hot, just incredibly beautiful; and two you're expecting too much of an actress who is herself just human.

Yes, because it's really, really difficult to find an actress who is both human and stunningly gorgeous. She's supposed to be pretty enough to make people stumble when they walk past, and this actress is relatively plain by movie-making standards. And don't try to say that I'm looking for "bombshell hot", I can think of leading men who are ~naturally prettier~ than her.
And flawless and poreless is a freaking staple nowadays for actresses - the Vulcans in Star Trek were flawless and poreless and no one was patting themselves on the back for how difficult that was.

As a lesbian I can't think of a single leading man who's ~naturally prettier~ than well, any leading woman out there. Just shut up & watch the movie. Doesn't matter what you think, it's what the characters think, & if the actors playing them did a crap job of acting like they're blown away by someone's beauty then that's their fault.
