I don't think I have ever seen sci-fi deal well with pregnancy. Either they get no choice, or they're experimented on, or it's a forced pregnancy by an alien/demon/whatever even if there's no sex involved, or it's a goddamn messiah baby (that usually comes hand in hand with no choice). Sci-fi and pregnancy do not mix well. Ever.

I think Deep Space Nine dealt with pregnancy well, albeit in a very odd way, since there wasn't any logical storyline that had Kira end up pregnant with her own baby.

1. Thanks, though I can't take credit for it.

2. In DS9, Nana Visitor, who played Kira, was pregnant but there wasn't really a way to make the character pregnant. So they had Keiko O'Brien be pregnant and be on a shuttle with Kira that got into an accident (or something like that, it's been awhile). And so to save the baby's life, they had to transfer it to Kira's body and Bajoran bodies really bond with babies so they couldn't transfer it back. It led to some really interesting situations with Kira and the O'Briens and in the end they did name the baby after her (Kirayoshi). There was also a lovely moment with her and Odo talking about her having to give the baby away since he wasn't really hers despite being bonded to it (Odo had just met a young changeling who then died, so they were both in the same situation).

Right! Thanks for the explanation, I had forgotten about that part! And I never knew that it was due to her RL pregnancy. Aaaand DS9 is once again full of awesome. <3
