Word.

And yet in the next episode she's walking around, perfectly fine and back to her old self (if obviously worried for her baby). I really hoped Moffat wouldn't downplay the trauma of her having to go through such a thing on her own but it seems finding out about magic baby Melody was more important. Not that it wasn't - it just would have been nice to have a scene between Amy and Rory (or even the Doctor) where she breaks down about it.

THIS. You know if Rusty had written that plot, people would be screaming about how sexist and misogynistic he was.

And I thought it was Moff who was the misogynist? Going from that interview he did about women being needy etc. I'm surprised he's not got more flack for this.

Apparently he has denied that he said those things, not that I necessarily trust that (because who wouldn't want to deny an interview in which you came off like a complete asshole), but at least there is acknowledgement there that they were things that were not appropriate to say.

Also, I am not defending him if he DOES believe those things or anyone who actually says them. But I find myself cutting him slack (which is not something I do, so it surprises me) because I find overall his female characters tend to not portray the things he supposedly believes. I am not saying that he doesn't have problems that definitely need to be discussed.

Although I am confused about people talking about the next episode, has it been leaked? Do we know what the hell is happening? Right now I thought all we knew was that They know River is Melody, that she'll be safe, and the Doctor is going after her to save her. And I for sure saw Amy being very traumatized, she flinched from THE DOCTOR. Who is her best friend. She pointed a gun at River. How is that not traumatized?

I am basically waiting to see what he does with it.

Also I rambled a lot at you. It's late. Sorry :D

I guess that's better than nothing, though it doesn't really take away how he see's women and a lot of it is easy to see in his writing as well. River Song seems more like a fetishised image of his 'perfect' companion for the Doctor; a Time Lady who can kick ass and chew bubble gum to help him - and in turn she "lives for the days she see's him" as she even said. Not to mention I found it odd that such an independent and badass character would be satisfied with her happy ending being stuck in a virtual computer, being a single mother to two kids who don't even exist and another who isn't hers. That just seems to scream; "Ah, that would be any woman's dream." from the mind of a man.

Ha. I think I just out-rambled you. ^_^

I haven't heard people talk about the next episode 0_o It's not being aired until September so I'd have thought the chances of it being leaked are slim. But I'm not saying Amy isn't traumatised by the end of it - her baby melted in her arms. I nearly screamed right there. It was just the whole "giving birth alone in a white tube to a baby I had no idea about with Pirate!Midwife glaring down at me" that I thought she'd be scarred from as well.

But yeah, I'm going to hold out to see what he does with these characters now because I can easily see this being the final straw for both Amy and Rory and they'll be leaving the TARDIS wanting a safe, family life (of course depends if they get their baby back which looks doubtful).

Honestly, this feels like a story a guy wrote, and didn't bother discussing with any woman to see how it might be for us to see something like this. Because what do women know about being pregnant, right fellas?
And let me point out: Not only is there the incredibly icky "coma pregnancy", but then we see Amy spend the whole next episode terrified of having her baby taken away. And then it DOES get taken away.

People DID scream about how sexist and misogynistic Moffat was. Where have you been?

[identity profile] princessgos.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been on various bb's where the slightest criticism of Moffat for any reason immediately gets shouted down and my intelligence, sanity and vercity are questioned. That's where I've been.
