No, they are boring. For example, women's soccer is SLOW AS HELL, because to be honest, half of those women are not playing at the same level as men. They don't run as fast, tackle as hard, etc. SO TAKE THE WOMEN WHO CAN AND PUT THEM ON THE SAME TEAM AS THE MEN. PROBLEM FUCKING SOLVED. And no, it doesn't have anything to do with "sexist attitudes", it has everything to do with the physical differences between men and women and the limitations that go along with those physical differences.

Also, I think virtually everything on this planet should be co-ed, including restrooms, so the idea of separate teams for women contradicts this ideology

Also

The reason mens' sports are seen as ~more exciting~ is because they're hyped to the fucking nth degree

Men's soccer is FAR FROM HYPED AND PROMOTED in the United States, in fact, I've seen international men's soccer matches get PRE-EMPTED for women's basketball before. So no, men's soccer is exciting because it is exciting, and it would be even more exciting if women soccer players who were capable of holding their own with the male players were allowed to play on the same teams.

uh

do you play soccer jw

also nice US-centrism here
in the rest of the world it IS promoted to hell and back
jfc have you SEEN the world cup?

and then, have you seen ANY publicity for the women's world cup?
also you clearly don't know shit about women's soccer. I play it almost every day, and believe me it's just as much of a crazy challenge as men's soccer.

Well I've never lived in another country so I don't consider myself qualified to speak about the condition of women's teams in foreign countries. I can only speak from my own experience. Sorry?

jfc have you SEEN the world cup?

I've seen the men's World Cup, yeah, in 2006 and 2010 (in 2002 I was too busy working to catch it at 3 or 4 AM in the morning or whenever it aired here). I watched a few women's World Cup games, in fact, back in 2004-ish it was much easier for me to find a wall calendar for the women's national team than it was for the men's team. Until relatively recently, soccer was considered more of a "women's sport" here in the states for some reason

You know what, it is so not even worth it to argue with you right now. Your whole argument is that men are better at playing sports than women, so womens' sports are boring, we should just get rid of 99.9% of female athletes. Because it's all about the perfect men athletes, amirite? You clearly haven't read a single thing I've written. Let me try and spell it out for you one more time:

If womens' sports got even half as much respect for mens' sports, there would be a lot more competition and a lot more physicality in sports. There is nothing "pushing" these women because they know regardless of what they do, they will not be taken seriously.

Men's soccer is FAR FROM HYPED AND PROMOTED in the United States, in fact, I've seen international men's soccer matches get PRE-EMPTED for women's basketball before.

I assure you, internationally, mens' soccer is much more hyped than womens' soccer. Or do you not know about all the fucking media hype that goes into the World Cup? My argument was that as a WHOLE, womens' sports is basically invisible when it comes to the media. (And also, if you want to argue about just the US? THINK ABOUT FIELD HOCKEY. It barely even gets AIRED on TV and that's if/when it gets any media attention at all, unlike MENS' SOCCER.)

Also, I think virtually everything on this planet should be co-ed, including restrooms

including restrooms

including restrooms

Wow.

[identity profile] joshua-glass.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a sports fan so I'm staying out of all that, but unisex bathrooms do exist, so why the 'wow' at [livejournal.com profile] childings belief that (more) restrooms should be co-ed?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-13 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Srsly. I've never asked any of my male friends or roommates to use a separate bathroom than the one I use. It's really not that much of a shock.

You know what, it is so not even worth it to argue with you right now.

Then why are you still arguing with me?

Your whole argument is that men are better at playing sports than women, so womens' sports are boring, we should just get rid of 99.9% of female athletes. Because it's all about the perfect men athletes, amirite?

THIS JUST IN -- EXCLUDING SOME EXCEPTIONS, FOR THE OVERWHELMING MOST PART MEN AND WOMEN'S BODIES ARE DIFFERENT

I assure you, internationally, mens' soccer is much more hyped than womens' soccer.

No shit, I totally wasn't talking about North America, being from North America and all.

including restrooms

Wow.

Yeah, we wouldn't want people who don't subscribe to a gender binary to not have to choose whether they are male or female in order to take a shit now would we? (While we're at it, let's make those people choose a gender in order to play sports too)

And what's wrong with men and women sharing bathrooms? We do it at home, why not in public places? Why is this idea so offensive to you?

nayrt

And what's wrong with men and women sharing bathrooms? We do it at home, why not in public places? Why is this idea so offensive to you?

It's not seen as safe. Bathrooms are a place which women sometimes retreat to in public places so they can get away from harassment from men. Letting men into those? Not a good idea.

And even with separate sex bathrooms, there are still men who go into them to sexually attack and harass women. If public bathrooms are made co-ed, that would make it even easier for those men.

Re: nayrt

[identity profile] hello-ilu.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I do agree that separate bathrooms are good irt a safe space for women- but perhaps a mixed bathroom as well as the men's/women's? Because it's not that safe for anyone FTM or MTF who can't pass to go into a bathroom for the gender they identify as or the sex they were born.

...lol how is this so horribly off-topic. I understand entirely if you don't respond, this just seemed to have veered into an interesting conversation.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2011-06-13 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, it's perfectly okay. I was responding to an off-topic thing too.

I do agree that having mixed bathrooms as well is a good idea too. Bathrooms as they are in most places right now are good for women as a whole, but terrible for men and women who can't pass.

[identity profile] rikuxsora.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not down with co-ed bathrooms. Guys pee on everything and leave the toilet seat up. >_>
