I don't like the comments "it's such a manly show rrrrr." No. No, it's a girly show. You like a girly show. That's okay. Saying it's manly makes you look more insecure than saying you like a girly show.

Uh...someone is declaring a show called "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" to be "manly"? Do the ponies....fight each other to the death or something?

No. No they don't. They sing upbeat chipper songs though. That happens a lot.

Yes, thank you! This is the only problem I have with the fandom - the guys that say things along the lines of "this show is not like those other girly shows - this one is manly and therefore cool!". And I honestly found it off-putting that fans are referred to as "bronies" (bro ponies). "Ponies" would've been cool too - both female and male characters are called 'ponies' in the show. It felt like they were going out of their way to make it a "guy thing".

Isn't this what most guys do when they suddenly like girl material?
It seems to me MLP-FiM is the new color pink. There was a phase in my country when suddenly guys would wear pink t-shirts under their suits or other pink highlights in their clothing. When asked they always responded "you gotta be a real man to wear pink!". It seems like they were very scared of being emasculated by admitting they liked the new trend color of the summer because it was a typical "girl color" ;)

Meh, I think "bronies" came largely from /b/ -- /b/ros became /b/ronies as a joke (the same thing happened with /co/lts, essentially) and that term ended up being applied to most all of the show's internet fandom, regardless of gender or affiliation with the chans.
