That's not how things work, though. They couldn't just give you your money back and demand to have the books. Once you've bought it, it's yours, and it's up to you to decide whether you're willing to give it up. Not to mention the fact that the book publishing company would also get a say in the whole thing. You just can't compare fanfiction to published works.
