It doesn't help that the newer work is pretty blatant plagiarism of another artists work too :/

Oh WOW for some reason I never made the connection that it was them! The art in that is so STIFF and the colors are strange! But you can make beautiful things in photoshop that LOOK like hand done art, this just seems like they don't know how to use it right.

I couldn't find a scan of it, but honestly the thing I wanted to put up of her new art was from Elfquest: The Discovery, where it's very VERY obvious she just found a scale pattern and filled in the mermaids tails with it. Didn't alter it at all for the rotation and direction of the tail... just... clicked and filled.

I cannot stop laughing at how his hair/wings curve perfectly around his nipples.

I recoiled form my screen at this secret. As a primarily Photoshop artist WHAT IS THIS. TAKE WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT TRADITIONAL ART. APPLY IT TO DIGITAL. LEARN TO USE BRUSH OPACITY FOR EXTRA UMPH. NOT THAT HARD.

I think it's done in Flash, actually? Very, very rarely does drawn art look fluid in Flash.

I'd heard before it was a blatant boy's love fanservice comic and went to the site just now-- oh my god rainbows everywhere

Checked out the actual comic too, I was confused. Is there not supposed to be text? There's no music or dialogue and it's such stiff tweening...

This secret makes me want to cry. I know how it is OP: I started using sketchbooks around the time I started reading ElfQuest too. It's been years, but her older stuff was just amazing. To see that sample of her newer stuff... she should've stuck with pen & ink.

*sigh* This so much. She was also my inspiration to become an artist, and to see what she puts out now...well, it makes me a little sad. ElfQuest was the most incredible magical art/story combination I have ever or probably will ever read, when she was doing it(I never really forgave her for letting the other artists in, either. None of them ever matched her gift and some of it was downright appalling, and either way after Kings of the Broken Wheel the story and the characters just became so...generic, under other people's hands).

But I always have the original Quest to read again and again and again, at least.

What the fuck happened to her? I don't know that she's drawn more than a very small handful of decent-looking things since ElfQuest hit the 10th book collection. Then she like... sold it off to KINDERGARTENERS to illustrate (at least, that's what the art looks like, it is literally painful to look at), disappeared for a few years, and came back completely insane and unable to hold a damn pencil. What the fuck?

To be fair to Wendy Pini, (and I don't know the details of this AT ALL) I think awhile back she had some health problems that prevent her from drawing in the same way that she used to- she's has to find alternate methods.

If that's inaccurate I'm sorry, it's just what I'd heard.

Like chibiqueen, I heard she had some health issues that prevent her from drawing. Might be carpal tunnel syndrome, but I think it's multiple sclerosis. I don't like her recent stuff either, but I think she's doing the best she can. It is sad, but pls no bashing.
