i'm guessing it's being ignored partially because darwin is black
and partially because he dies like five minutes after he's introduced

but yeah, they had a cute bromance going and havoc seemed kinda heartbroken when he died :[

I was trying to pretend it's not cuz of the first reason, but it probably is. I was really surprised at the total lack of Darwin/Havoc fics when I started exploring fandom.

are you serious? I definitely agree with the second part (you'd have to write total AU to get them back together with Darwin being dead and all) but what does him being black have to do with it?!?!

Some people believe that any time there is a dearth of fanworks for a black character, it can only be solely on account of their being black, rather than for any other reason such as their being minor characters or not being very popular for reasons of characterization. I personally believe it has more to do with the lack of well-written or main black characters than with the fact that the minor or not very fleshed-out characters have dark skin, but I suppose ymmv. Granted there probably are people out there who haven't got so much interest in black or other minority characters on account of their looks, but I'm reasonably certain this is not the main reason for most of the fanwork creators out there. I know most of my fandoms don't have a whole lot of black characters, and they're usually kinda minor, so there's not going to be a whole lot of fanworks for black characters in those fandoms for that reason, not because of racism. It's really on the heads of the creators, in the end.

You did, yes, but I'm sure you've seen the people who go off all "XXX is hated/ignored just because they're black!!1" often with lots of references to "white cock." I figured I'd explain this, minus the white cock, so germanjj would understand the whole thing (tbh I was kinda surprised they hadn't already heard about this), it wasn't a jab at you in particular :)

fandom does have a tendency to ignore poc characters un favor of white ones

of course, hollywood also has a tendency to write more fleshed-out white characters, but that's not the only thing at play here

don't act like i'm crazy for suggesting this, lol
