Similar case over here. I was SO into the first one, embarrassingly so, was greatly disappointed by the second one but still interested, and then the whole thing died for me. Now I see the movies for Dakota Fanning and Charlie's awkward pauses.

I read the first 2 books a bit before the 3rd one was released. I liked the idea and gave the 3rd book a shot. I'm a sucker (no pun intended) for vampires, so I did keep an open mind about it for awhile. I despise the 4th book. It's complete and utter fan service head desk inducing crap. But since I discovered Twilight before the movies I went along with it. I doubt I would've gave it as much as a chance if I had seen the movies first.
