That's the heart of reasonable Twilight dislike there: It is a book that should be understood as Id-fic, not to be taken as anything ideal that is at all applicable to the real world. It is presented as having a message in some circles, when it should be presented as just entertainment.

(same anon from before) Yeah, that's why the whole Twilight craze confuses me. For instance, I also like the Sookie Stackhouse series (The writing's not all that great, but it's just good old fashioned fun), and it's another fairly popular vampire series but I think most people understand it as something not to take all that seriously (well, some do get pretty crazy over it but not at a Twlight level I guess). I suppose part of it may be because it's targeted at a higher age group maybe. But I also know an astounding number of middle aged women who genuinely think Edward is the ideal man.

The Sookie books are my current drug of choice when I am in a "I just want to read some fun and kinda trashy stuff, but am tired of the internet".

lol I agree wholeheartedly. I'll just sit down reading and be like "Oh this book is just ridiculous. But I really want to see if Sookie ends up fucking this dude/breaks up with Bill/gets back together with Bill/has to be rescued by Bill or Eric". It's great.
