Notes:

Sorry it's late. Half of tinypic being down = I have to go through manually and replace the ones that aren't working. Hopefully it'll be back by tomorrow

OP here

In case anybody checks back -

I'm all :DDD \o/ that there are other people out there who enjoy(ed) KM Peyton's horse stories as much as I do, but I feel like I'm luring people into buying these books under false pretenses, especially as Free Rein (British title: The Last Ditch) is not easy (and cheap) to come by these days.

While Fly-by-Night and The Team are about Ruth, Fly, Toad, Peter and the Pony Club, Prove Yourself A Hero and FR/TLD do not feature Ruth/Fly/Toad aside from a small mention at the end of FR/TLD; they're not about the Pony Club, though both are set shortly after The Team.

Prove Yourself A Hero is about Jonathan getting kidnapped for ransom and how everybody reacts to suddenly finding a loved one in danger. There's lots of Jonathan, Peter, Sirius, Mr McNair and Mrs Meredith, so naturally I love it to pieces, though I missed Ruth and Toad a little.

Free Rein/The Last Ditch is about Peter and Jonathan running away from home (sort of. I don't wanna spoil the plot) and training a racehorse for the Grand National. Mrs Meredith makes some short appearances, but mostly the boys are on their own with the horse, camping out in an abandoned house, which suits me just fine.

As I adore Peter (obviously :D) and like Jonathan fine enough, I love both those books just as much as Fly-by-Night and The Team and will never give them away. But if you want more Ruth/Fly/Toad, PYAH and FR/TLD are not the books for you.

If you're looking for more Ruth, she's a major character in KM Peyton's Pennington series, but at that point in her life she has put horses firmly behind her, so there's no Fly/Toad. TBH, it soured me a little on her character, so I gave the Pennington books I had to the library and chose to live by my own headcanon in which Ruth never gets tired of horses. ;)

OH OH OH OP ME TOOOO!

I've never yet managed to get my hands on Prove Yourself A Hero or Free Reign (even the children's bookstore in Hay failed me), but I still kinda believe that Peter and Jonathon ended up together. Either way, Peter McNair is one of my heroes!

OP

Yay, another one!

If you really want to have Prove Yourself A Hero and Free Rein/The Last Ditch, I suggest trying amazon and abebooks. Used copies of PYAH are available on amazon for £0.01 if you're not picky about the edition. FR/TLD is a bit trickier and way more expensive, but unlike amazon, abebooks has some affordable copies:

http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?an=peyton&bt.x=0&bt.y=0&sts=t&tn=free+rein
http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?an=peyton&bt.x=0&bt.y=0&sts=t&tn=the+last+ditch

It's where I got mine years ago, shipped in from the USA, because I just couldn't live without it. I'm such a tool. A happy tool. :DDD
