Unless they show you a TARDIS that's bigger on the inside (and not in a creeper sorta way XD), then no, get the that notion out of your head. Don't blur the lines of fiction and reality with your patients because then you may become on yourself. That would be kinda ironic. fo_O

I read Carl Sagan's Demon-Haunted World and in one chapter he discusses a case where this guy gets his psychotherapist wondering if he's telling the truth about IIRC alien abduction or something along those lines before finally confessing he made stuff up because his life was so boring.

The book also warns against just believing things just because you want to. I think it's time for the psychotherapist to refer said patient to another doctor because he's not keeping the proper distance.

I think it's time you step back and send this patient to another therapist. Preferably one who isn't a Doctor Who fan. It wouldn't be good if you subconsciously started encouraging the patient's belief that they're a Time Lord.

i am really genuinely curious about this. how do you deal with doctor who canon? does your patient acknowledge it exists? i feel like if it were me i would be asking them all the questions you know? like how they managed to build themselves a tardis, if they did, how they managed to get themselves stranded on earth, if they are. i'm also just super curious about how they deal with the tv show. so many questions, so many possibilities. and i just, would have no idea how to deal with any of that. way to be.

Can't help but think that this is kind of awesome. I admit I just read the Hector books and that's probably coloring my viewpoint, but still, how nice it must be to talk to someone with a pleasant delusion after a week of folks with other disorders.
