^ This, basically. In fandoms that skew older, bara is perfectly fine, if still not everyone's cup of tea. Younger fans tend to be the ones who bash it.
And if you're in a fandom with lots of girly young male characters, naturally the fans are going to squee over.. girly young males. Since there are far more shows with effeminate young men than burly older men, it really does end up making sense.
