I care a lot about childrens' films, OP, so you're not alone in that aspect. And this happens to be one of my personal favorites now, so I care a lot about this movie. I'm the opposite, though. I hadn't even heard of the books before this film came out, and when I looked into them (even flipped through the first one at a book store), I wasn't impressed. This movie blew me away, but the books always seemed 'meh' to me, and I've never had an interest in reading them. That's just me, though, nothing negative meant toward the books themselves.
