My theory is that Kishi, right before the Uchiha fight, realized that afterward Sasuke wouldn't be completely necessary to the main plot any more, so he did this whole Uchiha-Senju/Madara/Light-Dark asspull to keep him relevant. And.. therefore made his own manga even more ridiculous and convoluted.
I mean, Kishi has admitted to not planning things very far ahead. But in return we lost Oro as an amazing villain because he wasn't directly related to the Uchiha conflict, whatever the potential significance of the Akatsuki rings was supposed to be, what could have been some great fights with other Jinchuuriki, and the possibility of maybe even a better Danzou sidestory. Maybe it's just me though.

This honestly actually makes a lot of sense. Because the Uchiha-Senju BS feels so forced and out-of-nowhere, there was no foreshadowing of it, and it kind of contradicts or undermines some past events.
