Depending on one's personal circumstances with motion and vision (and/or glasses), you may not have to see new 3D to know you won't be able to tolerate it. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle "new" 3D because I can't handle any artificial 3D, and yup, it makes me feel ill and gives me a headache.
You also don't have to see it to know the stats on darkness/muddying. 3D movies are simply darker than regular movies, and converting a film that wasn't made in 3D is even worse. Plus, you know, the fact that it's just a cash-in and a way to increase revenue from flagging ticket sales. If someone likes it, more power to them and their $15 movie ticket, but I hate it when something I want to see is only playing in 3D when I have time to go.
