I know the feeling, anon. It's one of the things that kept me out of Star Trek fandom. Chances are, though, if you're worried about it, you're a lot better than you think. And having a friend look over your stuff never hurts.

and come on. half the fic in this fandom involves images of martin freeman putting jam on his genitalia and one of the most famously asexual characters in literature taking it the ass.

Seconding the beta suggestion if you need the confidence, but your fic is perfectly worthy of being posted to that comm. It welcomes everything from crack to graphic slash to plotty gen and the fandom isn't intimidating.

I'm a bit late, but I shall rec this until I die:
Thermodynamics series (http://libraryofsol.livejournal.com/tag/series%3A%20thermodynamics) by entangled_now. It's the best one out there. Sherlock/John, totally in character and I could see this happening in the show. The setup is a bit cliché but she makes it something so, so good.

The first part of that series is the last one on the list.

You're kidding, right? Most of the stuff posted to this comm is un-beated, un-britpicked rubbish where Sherlock and John could just as easily be two random Americans as anything else.

Ah, there you are! I knew someone would have to bring this to the table.

I honestly think that the good to bad ratio of fic for fair-sized fandoms on lj stays pretty consistent. It all depends on how infatuated you are with a pairing or fandom. I'll find a new fandom and there'll be keeper fics everywhere I turn for a while, but then the honeymoon ends and I get picky again. That's how it was for me with Sherlock and how it was with Inception before it and H50 after. (TSN, clock's ticking!)

Agreed, actually. But the OP shouldn't be intimidated as the current cycle of BBC Sherlock fics on that community is leaning towards the 1 gem in 100 could be any two American bodies ratio.
