I actually understand that. In fact,I can get bothered by ways genitals are described depending on the fic even, because it can break the mood. I think sometimes "pussy" is just sort of comical, I feel pretty much the same about "dick" or "prick". But it's not just words..I mean, I can get distracted by specific descriptions of pubic hair, or bodily juices...its porn, and it's different for everyone.

You can't go wrong, in my opinion and experience, with describing how the POV character experiences the scene using whatever terms they would.

I think that helps. I also think that if you think about how the people would actually talk in the bedroom, you sort of avoid awkward wording more (unless your characters are awkward, but then at least it's IC!)

I find cock interesting in some contexts, especially if it's written fairly not-frilly. Or then perhaps more indirect ways of describing it: like "his hardness, or "he pushed himself into". But it really depends on the fic. I'm not saying "dick" would bother me always & everywhere, but sometimes some words can just pull me out of the moment, if that makes sense?

I do like the indirect thing as well.

Pretty much no matter what fic it is, 'member' pulls me out of the moment immediately.
