The film I went to see in 3D (Thor), I only saw in 3D because the cinemas didn't actually have a 2D version. Given that the aesthetic merit of 3D film remains a matter of contention, isn't it reasonable to stick with 2D for everyone?

What I hate is the way 3D is eliminating 2D entirely, because that's basically cutting me (and others in my position, like your friend) completely out of the loop when it comes to film.

aughhhhhhh I'm seeing it on thursday. It literally IS NOT PLAYING IN 2D ANYWHERE AROUND, WTF. I'll suck it up and pay extra because I really gotta see Thor, but fuck, that ain't cool.

I get the distinct impression there may never have actually been a 2D version.

(It was a damn good film, if a bit dark having to watch it singly polarised.)

There is a 2D version. I had to track one down since I wear glasses and 2 hours with 3D glasses on top = splitting headache.

The biggest annoyance I have with 3D is not its existence, but that it seems to be phasing out 2D films. Especially since it seems so much like a gimmick to get people to pay even higher ticket prices.

So glad I saw Thor though, it was amazing.
