Hmm, I really didn't get that vibe from First Class. Nor from the comics. There was the idea of it in X 1-3, but I always found that fairly strange for Magneto. He is a segregationist, quite definitely, but I've always seen it more as an acknowledgement that humans/mutants were never going to live together peacefully and one might as well deal with that reality - not to exterminate them all.

Sorry, I just looked it up, and whoa, yeah . Sorry, I take back my words. I wasn't all that much a fan of New X-Men and i see it was published in a time where my spending budget was limited...so this slipped entirely under my radar...

It wasn't just a vibe in First Class, it was flat out stated. He told the guy he agreed with him on basically every point up to having his mother killed, and then only because it was HIS mother. They would have been best buds if Shaw hadn't been a Nazi that had done damage to him personally.

I agree that Erik isn't evil, but he's perfectly capable of committing evil acts. Most people don't sympathize with him because his ideas are better (or worse) than Charles', but because faced with the same circumstances and experiences we can't say for certain that we would do anything differently.

I stopped reading X-Men a long time ago, before the 2000's. I couldn't stand the whining. Until then, Magneto wasn't about genocide. He was a segregationist, as you pointed out. I got the genocide vibe from the first class. I like Magneto from the comics that I read, but not in the films.
