Whenever a discussion like this comes up guilty white people get so defensive about the fact that ingrained, unintentional racism plays into how you view things (including matters of sexuality) that a real discussion on the matter gets derailed with repeated cries of 'I'm not racist! Let me explain to you how!'

Newsflash - issues with race affect the way people view the world around them, whether it's intentional or not. Pretending it doesn't play a part at all is a ridiculous waste of time and won't get anyone anywhere. You can list all of the logical reasons you want - and yes, those reasons are perfectly valid, but there are more complicated things at play here, shit underneath that needs to be examined, even if it does make you a tiny bit uncomfortable to confront the fact that you have a hard time slashing black males because they're too other for you.

This annoys me because I've seen this in just about every fandom I've been in that tried to justify the lack of fic centered around a lead of color. If people weren't so afraid of being called racist then maybe there could actually be a discussion on race and the internalization of racist viewpoints (and how that can show itself in small ways - like in fandom, for instance) that didn't amount to justification and a circle jerk full of 'it's ok because I think like that too!'
