You are not alone. HP ended (for me) with the books, even though I stayed in the fandom for a few years afterward. But the movies are awful as a whole (though there are moments in each that work well individually) and I'm still deciding if I even want to see part two of the seventh.

"are awful as a whole"

Yeah, totally agreed. I like to watch them for little moments like Cormac throwing up on Snape's shoes in HBP. :p

I definitely agree that as a complete series, they kind of suck. There are definitely moments that I adore from the later films, but even individually, the films are not great at telling a stand-alone story. My dad has never read the books, and he's always having things explained to him because they leave huge gaping holes there because they know the majority of the people watching will know what fills that hole. I think that's just cheap film making. You make a book!film for people who haven't read the original material, and then supplement with the little details only book readers will catch, not the other way around.

I have to admit I don't know how people can even follow the films properly if they've not read the books. They rely a lot on the viewer being familiar enough with Harry Potter to fill in the blanks. I guess people can do this on the internet now, but it gets to the point where it's less effort just to go straight to the original source. And I speak as someone who, on the whole, likes the films.
