Who has a facebook with their real name anymore nowadays, tho?

Just asking for trouble IMO.

Everyone I know, for starts. Not having a facebook account looks not suspicious, per se, but not good. You should have a facebook account under your real name, and it should be your public face, with photos and info safe for nosy employers. This matters in the professional world, and if you don't use facebook you have to have a substitute at Linked In or something similar.

Don't give out your real name to random people at cons, and set your facebook account to hide all tagged photos in case your friends forget your "please don't post cosplay pics of me" request. I've never had an issue following these simple rules.

Um...everyone? I use my real name in order to keep in touch with friends I wouldn't otherwise be able to keep in touch with (i.e. friends who have moved, friends who don't use their phones much, etc) and to search for old friends I may have lost contact with over the years.

As long as your profile is kept private, and you don't give out personal details willy-nilly, there's no trouble at all.

Let me tell you a little story, anon.

One day, about a year and a half ago, my brother, a middling tech type on the level of the guy you call when your wi-fi is messing up, called me over to the computer. He then proceeded to show me, in under five steps and five minutes and purely with some clever use of google cache and the page source, how to completely hack into a 'locked' facebook and get all that person's information on all their privacy settings.
