I was going to call troll to this, but then I remembered the insane amount of people who frequent the unexplained mystery forums and the like who are delusional enough to think they're mediums/vampires/psychic vampires/psychic/specialparanormalsnowflakes.

If you really do feel you are a medium, well...I'm glad it saved your life, but delusions are never healthy.

So as long as you're doing it in the name of upholding science, it's perfectly okay to taunt suicide survivors with ableist insults?

I am disappointed in the mental health professionals you saw if they didn't do anything to try and help the fact that you're hearing and seeing shit that doesn't exist.

Annie and her world aren't real.

Believing you can see the dead seems like a relatively harmless delusion; in my experience of psychiatry, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been more concerned with helping OP with their suicidal feelings, as long as the communications with spirits/whatever isn't dangerous or significantly interfering with day-to-day life. Since OP definitely recognises that most people won't believe them, I doubt they're likely to be causing riots in the streets or even really making family dinners uncomfortable. And if it's a belief/delusion which brings the OP comfort, well there's no harm in that.

How do you know they didn't? I'm sure they called her out on it, but if she believes in it and it's helping her... well, how is that different from finding comfort in, say, religion? (Other than the fact that it's more socially acceptable...)

FWIW, OP, I'm on your side. I've seen shit I can't explain, and I do believe. Stay strong. :)

And I would tell you not to post anything, if you don't want negative reactions,
but... you think you're a medium. Using common sense is obviously out of the question, at this point.

If someone believing they have the ability to see and speak with invisible beings automatically made them mentally ill, a HUGE part of the world's religious population, especially religious leaders, should be receiving intense psychiatric treatment right now.

OP didn't say they thought they were a medium in the sense it's portrayed in the comic, which would be an issue because that world is obviously make-believe. It's just that they believe they have psychic ability. From how popular things like tarot cards and palm readings are, it's not that strange of a belief to have.

Now, if they thought they thought the forest/court and the characters in them were all real, then there'd be a problem.

I don't know why people are giving you such shit. Most people believe at least one thing that the majority doesn't. It's not like you're planning on making the world explode. Geez. Hang in there :)

Honestly you could have left the medium part out. You knew it would get a reaction and hardly changes the meaning of the secret not to include it.

I think you want people to comment on it in hopes that someone will humor you or say they are one too.

Stop hating on a suicide survivor for believing something that is widely believed around the world and that plenty of scientists have done research into, with not-entirely-dismissive results (particularly look into ESP tests by parapsychologists, there is some data there that shouldn't be that way if it was just a delusion).

Is this person a medium? Who knows. We don't have enough information to evaluate this particular situation.

Do people who see the dead exist? Heck yes, and they don't fit the normal model of hallucinations, which is why they aren't automatically labeled as crazy and forced into therapy.

I grew up in a haunted house. I saw ghosts. Anyone who stayed in that house and had the slightest reputation for being "psychic" saw the same ghosts. People who weren't psychic didn't see anything but they always felt "weird" without even knowing the stories, and odd things happened to them.

I have fucking scars from the time when I went through a disbelieving phase and stopped taking the proper precautions! One ghost pushed me off a high place when I refused to get out of its way! I have learned not to disbelieve through painful experience.

Unless the house itself has some kind of scientificly-explained ability to produce hallucinations and odd events in everyone who stayed there, regardless of whether they'd heard the stories or not, and then everyone who visited immediately became sane again as soon as they left (which is not how insanity works, okay?), then it isn't a fucking mental illness, okay?

Just because some belief doesn't fit in with your experiences and what you've been taught of reality, that doesn't mean you get to toss insults like "crazy" at someone who holds those beliefs.

This is especially vile to toss those sorts of insults when that person is a suicide survivor and recognizing this part of themselves is what helped them to step away from suicide.
