Considering how often Haruhi blatantly molests Mikuru, she probably wouldn't be totally averse to the idea herself. Of course, Mikuru would first have to stop acting like a terrified 11-year-old all the time if they were going to have an actual relationship...

You think the problem is with Mikuru? I think it's *Haruhi* who has a lot to work on before she has a relationship. Mikuru... is shy but acts pretty normal for a girl her age who's never been in a relationship before. All she needs to learn is how to stand up for herself. Haruhi needs to learn not to treat all her friends like crap...

Haruhi's pretty terrible, too, yes. I didn't mean to sound like I was blaming the victim. Haruhi is terrible to Mikuru, and would have to stop treating her so badly if they were to have any kind of meaningful relationship -- but that said, my feeling is that Haruhi seems to have the baseline emotional sophistication to have a relationship, whereas Mikuru is basically a child.

I think they're both pretty bad to be honest. Like you said, Mikuru never stands up for herself and Haruhi I think is way too immature and self centered to be in a relationship.

Hmm, I really don't think Mikuru is childish. She's scared of Haruhi for understandable reasons but I don't see her as an "eleven-year-old." (An eleven-year-old would be more like having daydreams about boys and kissing and giggling with her best friends that she thought a boy liked her. Not just being shy.) She's also shy as heck so it would be a little difficult for someone (anyone... not just talking about Haruhi anymore) to get into an actual relationship with her, but I wouldn't say it couldn't work yet. Hey, she's a time-traveling agent, so I think she's probably pretty mature.

That being said I can't think of any characters in the show who would be good for her. Haruhi couldn't for obvious reasons, and Kyon likes her but he kind of only pretends to be nice to her while still letting Haruhi do horrible perverted things to her. Plus he keeps sexy pictures of her on his computer against her will while meanwhile playing the hero by telling her he deleted them and just... ugh, no, he doesn't deserve her either. He may *say* he loves her for her sweet personality, but he has a funny way of showing it. Yeah, Kyon only likes her for her body. He at least saved her from the non-con in the movie episode, but I don't think that's enough to show that he really respects her...

And Haruhi is... oh, gosh, I don't like her character. Actually I don't like any of the characters, but Haruhi is the worst. So far she seems to like Kyon and Kyon seems to even like her, but I still don't think *they're* a good couple. They're bound by the fact that Haruhi thinks other humans are her own personal playthings, and Kyon is passive-aggressive enough to put up with it. That's not exactly the foundation of a happy, healthy relationship.

...you know, if anything, I could see Haruhi with Yuki, if it weren't for the fact that she barely notices her existance. Yuki at least genuinely would not care no matter how much Haruhi bossed her around and all. Although, again, Haruhi would take advantage of that, so it would get kind of iffy... :/ Hmm.

TL;DR none of the Haruhi pairings work because all of the characters are either horrible people, have no self-respect, or both.

I like the thought of Mikuru/Koizumi, but not in the "OMG HE'S HOT AND SHE'S PRETTY!!!!!" way that any fic of them I've ever found seems to involve. I like the idea of them both being quite canny and manipulative re: their respective factions, and not trusting each other and using one another and
