Annnnd this is why shit like this is a secret, you guys.

Honestly? The OP had a lapse of fucking judgment. Don't act like you're saints who've never made mistakes, or would instantly know the exact thing to do if someone told you they were going to kill themselves. I bet most of you have never even been in that situation. It's incredibly shitty that a lapse of judgment had to end with a life taken, but that's what it fucking is. And OP is going to have to live with the guilt of that for the rest of hir life already. You don't need to open up your pasty asscheeks and rain shit all over hir even more.

Pretty sure this is a troll secret, but nonetheless, sorry--you'd have to be one of the most socially backwards people on the planet to recommend that your friend listen to a band instead of seeking professional help. Also OP should have expected this reaction if he's/she's posting here of all places, another reason I'm pretty sure it's a troll.

Orrrrrrrrr suicide would have to be a difficult subject for people to deal with, one with which people frequently deal poorly when they're suddenly faced with it, even though Monday-morning quarterbacks the world over are positive that they would handle it perfectly and not make any stupid mistakes.

.... Well, hey, how about that? It turns out that suicide is much tougher to deal with than second-guessing assholes think it is!

yeeeeeah, I'm pretty sure they knew what they were getting into when they posted this secret.

And when your friend confesses to you that they are seriously considering suicide and are trying to reach out to someone for help, going "lol here's some k-pop to cheer you up" is a pretty big lapse of judgement. I'm not saying they are actually to blame for the suicide, but that's still pretty horrendous.

People make mistakes, yes. Recommending a band instead of a hotline, or finding legitimate help? Damn big mistake to make. They're not responsible for the suicide, but it's still a pretty weak thing to do. Thinking in the friend's perspective, how would you feel if you told someone "I'm thinking about suicide, I'm depressed, I can't live life anymore" and they were like "lolkay listen to some KPop." I'd honestly feel like my friend wasn't taking me seriously.

Also, OP did know what they were getting into by posting this on F!S, so that makes it much more likely that it's a troll secret.

A mistake is locking the keys in your car or forgetting you had biscuits in the oven, not failing to get your suicidal friend the actual help they need so they don't fucking kill themselves. Jesus tapdancing Christ.

Because there's totally a "right way" that OP should have reacted to prevent her friend from committing suicide, right? Even if OP had called the suicide hotline, what if that hadn't worked? What if the friend had still committed suicide? OP would have felt the same guilt he or she is feeling now. OP would still be asking his/her self what they could have done better. And people would still be blaming the OP for not trying hard enough to "save" their friend, just like they are doing now.

Even if OP had called the suicide hotline, what if that hadn't worked? What if the friend had still committed suicide?

Then at least the they could be semi-content in the knowledge that they had honestly exhausted all possible means of helping their friend. OP sounds like they didn't even try. When faced with an honest-to-goodness suicidal friend, who just gives them a new band to listen to? Way to not even take the friend seriously.

I realize that if someone is going to kill themselves badly enough, it's next to impossible to keep that from happening...but why, if you love the person, wouldn't you at least attempt to help them?
