Not sure what to say to this. I have to assume that there was more to your conversation with your friend than, "here have some music, hope you feel better, g'night! <3" but since you didn't go into detail...?

I've been there, though. I've talked two friends out of killing themselves before, and it is not an easy thing to handle, especially if you've never been in that situation. I can understand wanting to use fandom/music to distract them from their pain; sometimes that CAN help, alongside having a real discussion with them. I can't vouch for suicide hotlines because I've never referred anyone to one before. I always felt like if they came to ME in that state of mind, then it ought to be ME talking them out of it, not some stranger.

But different things work (or don't) for different people, and sometimes you just can't know. You tried. All you can ever do is try. Ultimately, it was all up to your friend. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope someday you're able to be at peace with it. :(
