This so much. I can see how people can make the argument, but it's enough of a gray area that it shouldn't get tossed around so much. I think only egregious author avatar and audience surrogate characters like Belle should get it when it refers to canon.

I still personally don't find her to be one. To sum it up simply: the story is Harry's perspective. He isn't interested in her and at that time we don't see her. He likes her and suddenly she's perfect. Because he likes her, but doesn't really see her flaws yet because it's new love and all.

I can get why people see her as a Sue, the relationship isn't particularly developed (because Harry Potter is totally a romance novel and that was more important than horcruxes guys), but it really shouldn't be a "fact" that people take for granted. You can have a love interest that's just a love interest without them being a Mary-Sue. They're called...the love interest. Shocking I know.

Yes, thank you. So many people forget that the books are from Harry's perspective. When she's just 'best friend's little sister', of course she isn't going to have a lot of time or energy dedicated to her. But once she starts relaxing around him and he starts to notice her as a person? That's when she develops a personality. Not because it wasn't there before and now it was, but because now Harry notices it.

Ginny is described at her most beautiful when Harry is infatuated with her.
