Slippery slope if you're starting to quantify love as 'this is part of one type of love' 'this isn't'. What about the way I love my sister? I'd die for her in a heartbeat. I'd trust her with my life or my kids (assuming I ever had any). I tell her things I'd never tell anyone else. She's my best friend and has been since we were old enough to connect. Is that romantic? I don't want to have sex with her. We're a snuggly family and it's not unusual to find me curled up next to her with my head in her lap while she plays with my hair while we're talking. Is that romantic? What if I felt the same way about another girl but we weren't related and I still had no desire to get physical sexually with her. Is that romantic? You can't draw a thick black line between versions of love and say they're nothing alike. All love is alike at its base. It's love.

Nope, I'm not saying you love her romantically, or that if you had the exact same feelings about somebody else you weren't related to, that it would automatically be romantic.

I do agree that all love has important things in common. You enjoy being around a person, you feel a strong bond with them, they feel like a part of your life, you want to help them be happy and successful... that happens if you love someone like family or like a friend or like a girlfriend or boyfriend. I'm not saying friends don't matter, or family doesn't matter, or anything like that.

But to some people, there really is a clear difference. My friends are important to me, but there's a different energy to liking someone romantically and liking someone as a friend, at least for me. I don't think there's a universal division for where those lines are for everybody, and for some people there aren't any lines, more like intersecting blurry patches. I guess it's mostly that there are things I feel comfortable doing with a romantic partner, and things I feel about someone I'm romantically attracted to, that wouldn't apply to a friend, no matter how loved and valued the friend. And some of those things include sex, yeah, but there are things on that list that don't really feel sexual to me at all, and they're still romantic-partner-person only.

I'm sorry if I'm bad at explaining it. It's one of those things that has a pretty clear distinction in my head, but no clear explanation XD
