I am getting so fucking sick of these "TEAHOUSE IS HORRIBAD!" secrets.

It's a standard yaoi story. It's not amazing, it's not horrible. It's just fucking standard. I do not understand the level of vehement hate it gets. I mean, Jesus.

Isn't there anyone like me who enjoys reading it each week, but can see its flaws and would discuss it in a serious way?

Exactly. I like it about as much as any other webcomic I read. Teahouse provides the same level of enjoyment to me as Misfile, Something Positive, Girls With Slingshots, or Penny & Aggie.

So why is Teahouse the only one that has a giant legion of haters?

hint: because its fanbase is overwhelmingly female

i mean, so it's kind of a dumb comic, whatever. boys get much more of a pass on liking stupid shit.

I think the problem for me is that it IS a standard yaoi story, and especially cliche at that. From what I read, almost all of the characters end up falling into the cliche seme & uke stereotypes, and I find those stereotypes to be rather disgusting.

I don't read this comic, but it seems to be that if it's so standard it probably shouldn't elicit such hate. Is it just because it's in English? Because that's not fair. There's plenty of highly substandard yaoi fare out there to rail against, so why mess with the stuff that just falls in the middle?

Don't read the comic (also a day late) but from what I'm reading in this thread, the fact that it's in English isn't the reason for the hate. I know a lot of people that seriously dislike just about any yaoi that falls into the standard uke/seme stereotype, because it is a rather harmful stereotype towards gay men (mostly because the uke is always very feminine, thus implying that there always needs to be a "woman" in a relationship or somesuch). If that's why someone hates this comic, it's probably a good bet that they're railing against the really bad yaoi as well.

i guess linneus/atros would be very stereotypical uke/seme.... but they haven't even fucked lol

axis/bluehair is arguably the 'main' pairing thusfar, and while one character obviously tops, the one who bottoms isn't exactly very feminine?

i know you didn't read the comic so maybe you're not the one to argue with but... honestly i think anyone saying they hate it for femme-uke butch-seme syndrome is full of shit, since it's ABSOLUTELY not the worst offender in that respect.

Same here. I find it enjoyable, and don't really have any high expectations of it to be anything more than just that: a visually appealing source of generic entertainment.

I also think it makes decent use of its stereotypes and cliches, even if it is simply fluffed up yaoi.

I'm going to guess it mostly suffers from not being homestuck yet is one of the prominent adverts on y-gallery.

But standard yaoi is horribad.
