Tumblr aside. Gif-spams aside. The idea of the Harry Potter fandom aside.

This is a beloved book series that has been in the lives of millions of people for many years. Of course people are going to be sad about it ending. For some, it is a huge part of their childhood and letting go is hard. Why do people make so much fun of others not able to let go of something from childhood? What's so wrong about it?

It's been with them for years. They have cried while reading the many emotional parts of the story. They have been emotionally invested into this. The movies, like them or not, have continued to carry on this story in a different format. With the Deathly Hallows part 2 out, the final movie of the series, it marks the end to this one part of Harry Potter. The books -the original story - have been through for a while, and now the movies are over.

I stated fandom aside for a reason. Some people that really love this series are not in the "fandom" that we see on the internet. They might not be the gif-spamming "hphphphphp" you see on Tumblr. They might not draw fanart or read fics. For them, Harry Potter has only been two things: the books and the movies. That was their source material for this series. Now that it is over, there isn't anything of that format to look forward too.

For any fan, fandom-involved or not, the story has officially come to its end. There will probably be reboots of the movies in the future. J.K. will most likely publish little things here and there. Pottermore is coming out.

Harry Potter is definitely not over, but you have to be considerate of those who genuinely love this series. Not everyone is obsessive and spams it everywhere. I can completely understand why a person would be sick of seeing it, but, as I said, I also understand why fans are sad about seeing it go.
It's not goodbye, but for most kids, it's saying goodbye to something that has been with them for a long, long time. It might be their childhood. There's nothing wrong with that.

This is a beautiful comment. While I've never been part of the fandom, I love the series with all my being, and I think that Harry Potter will never truly be over unless you let it lose its magic for you. However, I understand the mourning of aligning Harry's childhood with your own and seeing it come to a close in the form of real human beings, albeit on a screen, is powerful.

What part of the secret gave you the impression they're not being considerate? They posted anonymously to a non-Harry Potter related comm where people are generally quite tough when it comes to this sort of thing. :/ They didn't say they judge people who are upset. They gave no indication that they don't understand why fans feel the way they do.

I'm not a fan, and while I get that it's a big deal for a lot of people, I'm relieved that it's over and that pretty soon I won't have it shoved in my face all the time... but I haven't said anything to any of the people who've been doing the shoving because I don't want to be harshing on their squee. Not a fan of the series =/= incapable of empathy/a total arsehole, kthxbi.
