Uggh. I hate that most mainstream pop songs feel the need to add a shitty verse or two of someone rapping. It always ruins the flow of the song. :-/

I hate his verse too, and I'm a huge Kanye fan. That last line of his second verse...just, DNW DDDDD: I really hate the lyrics for "E.T." in general though. I like the music/melody and the video is pretty amazing, even though normally I really dislike Katy Perry.

With you, OP. I'm not even the biggest pop music fan in general, but I really liked ET. And I was excited to see the video, and it was really pretty and then... Kanye. His (awful) lines seem to wreck the whole feel and tone of the rest of the song. I was very happy that the album version doesn't include him in the song, but that doesn't help for the video. Alas.

OMG SAME. I don't understand why the fuck he needs to be there. I don't think he contributes anything to the song - if he did, there wouldn't BE a Kanye-less version.

Everyone I've watched the vid with so far groans when he shows up. I never liked that guy so him being in an otherwise fantastic video is like being slapped in the face.

I love the Kanye version because, despite finding the song really god damn boring in general, his lines are so tremendously corny and awful that I sort of want to listen to it every time it comes on the radio.

Seriously the Astronaut, ass-a-lot, line is fucking atrocious, but he says it like it's such an awesome pick up line that it's just endearing.

Honestly though, I'm just glad this song came along to take the place of NEW KATY PERRY SONG, because holy fuck I am tired of Firework.

oh, OP. I fucking hate that song. I think it is SO HORRIBLE that every time it comes on the radio and I can't change it because I'm not driving the car, I can't help thinking of that line in Almost Famous when Lester Bangs says "99% of the stuff that passes for music these days, SILENCE IS MORE COMPELLING." I'm not saying you're wrong in thinking it's pretty. I'm not saying I'm necessarily right in thinking it blows. I just think it sucks SO HARD that the fact that you think it's ~one of the most beautiful pop songs ever made (except for Kanye's part) is actually hilarious to me rn, I'm sorry. <3333 for you & differing opinions

Yes! The song builds up to the chorus and then suddenly stops for that awful rap. It just doesn't fit. I definitely prefer the version without it.
