People change OP. Chandler may not have been the most mature of the group, but he at least got far enough that he would have been able to see past Monica's weight as shown in The One That Could Have Been.

I was actually thinking that before I hit submit, but then I thought there must be someone more mature than him. I haven't seen the show in a while so my memory of it isn't the most accurate.

Agreed. Monica and Phoebe matured as well, but Chandler got the most growth overall. I think he got the best, most well-rounded character arc.

ETA: Ugh, I should know by now to reread the above posts... I also think Chandler was consistently the most mature of everyone, throughout all ten seasons.

Ditto all of this. And to me the really interesting thing is if you compare that flashback to the pilot, to the finale and everything in between, Chandler is the one character who seemed to grow up into the most functional of adult in the most stable of relationships of the lot (even if Monica did turn into a crazy caricature of herself).

Oh, definitely. That's why i wasn't so sure I should be saying he wasn't the most mature of the group. Not to mention, I think it's also pretty amazing that he was willing to get together with her considering she cut off part of his toe in the very same flashback. OP probably should have watched a little more closely before making this secret.

Er, not the same flashback. She has lost the weight by the time she cut off his toe, didn't she? I haven't watched the show in a while so my memory of it is kinda fuzzy.

No, I'm pretty sure she overheard Chandler tell Ross he didn't want to stay there "alone with [his] fat sister," which upset Monica, and Rachel's revenge solution was for Monica to seduce Chandler and then embarrass him in some way. Rachel's example of one way to get Chandler hot and bothered was to hold the knife and talk about how cool the metal felt against her hot skin.

Cue clumsy attempts and toe-lopping knife-dropping.

Actually the revenge thing did happen after Monica lost the weight! I just went back and watched the episode and the "fat sister" comment happened in the flashback right before Monica cut off his toe.

Man, I forgot how funny that episode was.
