1. Yes, they were a bunch of douche canoes and they hurt your feelings.

2. But, from what I gather, they didn't contact you. They chatted about it amongst themselves.

As a writer, your base goal is to amuse people. Well, you did. Perhaps not in the way intended, but as the writer, you can't control that. It's all well and good to say that people shouldn't be dicks, but people *are*. And judging by the amount of dicks that exist, I'd wager it's even human nature.

Look, my friends and I, we gather around and mock the hell out of TV shows and movies. It's fun. We enjoy dissembling the works. We're not always correct in our fun making, because well, these aren't the kind of critiques we'd ever send to the writers/directors. These are just us being a bunch of jackasses in our places of residence. And it's unfortunate, but what you happened upon was an internet living room. They have as much right to be jackasses here as anywhere.

Sure, you feel bad. And you can feel bad if you want to. But what you read, it wasn't really about you. It was about them. They wanted to have a laugh and they did so, utalizing the information you presented on the internet. :/

That's what happens. But hey, look at Twilight. That woman has scores of passionate haters who go out of their way to mock her and her lifestyle to the ends of the earth. She's also raking in money hand over fist. So in the end, you know you created a work of fiction capable of inciting people towards strong emotion.

Congratuations. It may not feel like it, but you've actually just succeeded.

Um, I think you've nailed the one difference right there. Unlike Meyers, OP is writing fanfiction and getting zilch for it in return. Basically they're providing a free service and being mocked for it... undeservedly, I feel, because no one ever deserves to be attacked on a personal level for an unrelated reason like say what they ship. So no, I don't think OP is going to feel any better knowing that their works have incited "strong emotions" in a bunch of dickbags.

Agreed. Critique is fine, even encouraged. Going anon and nit picking stupid shit incessantly on one persons fic is hardly better than cyber bullying (if done on a large scale, as this seems to have been).
