I'm an atheist. I see A LOT of nice/cool A:TLA music videos which use Christian rock- like Red and Skillet in particular (though I hear the latter made the jump to full on secular). I didn't even KNOW they were until I looked them up. I was midly ticked at first but in the end I was all "Meh. I'll listen to these AMVs how I want.". Good thing about them is that they're damn vague and can be vaguely alluded to songs which are not romantic and kind of kick ass (for videos just celebrating like a show or whatever, not just for romantic pairings), and given the prevelance of romantic only songs well that can be kind of nice. Granted for a real secular band in that area, One Republic is also nice for me. Though Lighthouse can be nice too, and even be used in friendship songs.

All the same THIS skillet song is kind of... disturbing to me. (I... think its religious...? I hope so, if its supposed to be a secular song, excuse me ew.) It kind of feels like some STALKER or weirdo just waiting for a moment of weakness to strike someone so they'll love them to me- someone who doesn't know how much of a CREEP they're being. It feels actually pretty threatening all and all for the person the song could be for in a real life situation from the persective of said stalker/weirdo. The person singing it think it's genuine love. I know what they are originally going for but still- taking a secular interpretation of this with regular people and humans on both sides of the equation?

SCARY AS ALL HELL.

This would make a good song for a creepy slightly messed up pairing in any case.

I once saw it for a kataang pairing though and while I think it was well edited given the fact Kataang is fluff with some angst thrown in I was all D: when I was watching it a bit. It just seems so... wrong and not kataang. Too dark for them certainly.

Sorry I was supposed to end "the person singing it thinks its genuine ,love." in the sense if I was to pretend this was entirely secular or whatever (as I usually do with their songs whatever the original intent) this would be the view of said stalker and weirdo. I am 99.9% sure they mean it from Jesus'/God's perspective which has a different power level thing involved and all. (After all the view is they're perfect, they're everywhere and they love you in the christian belief system).

And "when they'll strike" in the sense they're just waitingt
until the person is in trouble or something or even perhaps CAUSE trouble in the hope the person will come running to them.

But yeah, creepy has hell if between two humans or whatever which are supposed to be on the same level in the real world- and like if it was from a human or something like a human's perspective.

I was midly ticked at first but in the end I was all "Meh. I'll listen to these AMVs how I want."
This! Many of my 'fandom songs' are supposed to have a mildly different meaning, but their wording works in context and that's how I enjoy them. Eg one of my fandoms uses the concepts of light and dark in a peculiar way, which turns songs like "Bring me to light" in a kind of war song. Nothing wrong about it. Do you like the music? Do the words make sense to you? FINE.

My fandom's arguably best AMV uses a song that has just the perfect symbolism, to the point that at first I thought that the song had been written especially for the game. It wasn't, and I discovered a week later that the author is a pretty passionate Christian singer. I still don't see the link to religion in that specific song, and I shouldn't be surprised since my fandom has Christian roots anyway, but it took me all of half an hour not to give a darn. Perfect symbolism is still perfect. I could see a problem if I had misheard a song's lyrics for something appropriate while the actual lyrics weren't. But as long as you can follow along with your intended meaning...

Best AMV I've ever seen to this music video? A Higurashi one. :| So yeah, this song definitely sounds downright psychotic to me every time I hear it. It's just so disturbing!

*to this song, not music video. argh.

That... anime sounds like it could fit.

Various disturbing animes, shows and pairings would.

I mean yeah I guess it just happens for SOME christian songs- while some can be used in all types of true love platonic and romantic in all their vagueness some don't. Because after all from a christian perspective their god -is- supposed to be all perfect, all knowing and all powerful etc but only someone who can REALLY help you at all if you accept him into your life. And the christian belief also seems to be since humans are flawed (or as I was told more harshly- completely unworthy of such love from such a perfect being and that our own very ideas of expressing love is nothing compared to his) we should be grateful he can love us at all. Plus of course many christians believe they are supposed to put god ahead of EVERYTHING. Including other people. And this is a valid interpretation of the text. (Basiclaly the idea is it goes in terms of priorities: god, other people, yourself. That's what I was taught anyway.)

So clearly some songs would be terrifically awful if used in a human-human relationship!

From a human-human perspective this particular song- well it almost sounds like someone is planning to put you in danger (or waiting for the opportunity) to play the hero or perhaps locking you up until you love them or witholding saving you from some other danger until you accept their love.

In a human-human relationship (or equivilant) interpretation the song I posted becomes highly messed up.

So well, some christian rock songs- even those vague enough not to mention god or jesus do not work from a fluffy, loving or equal relationship perspective between humans. Or heck even a regular parental-child relationship (sine every one knows real parents are not perfect and can mess up and to put them on the same level as a deity would be insane). Some do work otherwise, some don't. This one doesn't. Instead it's good for disturbing shows or pairings/relationships where there is a HUGE power imbalance.
