I agree with this. I'll have to check that book out! The title makes me think of this one (http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Schoolgirl-Inferno-Subculture-Handbook/dp/B00196PDAG/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311459247&sr=1-8), which is also a good resource into Japanese fashion, including ganguro.

You really should; I'd recommend that book just for the idol section, but the rest of the sections are fantastic. The idol section just handles the topic with real respect and goes through the whole history of idols from World War II to the current era. It's also probably one of the least weeaboo-ish books on Japanese culture I've ever looked through, which is something.

That book is pretty awesome. I liked reading about all the different styles that used to exist way back in the day that I had never heard of before.
